Thanksgiving Week is a great time to stage a Readers Theater or quick play with your students! This November play tells the story of Squanto, how he was kidnapped from his home, later escaped slavery only to return to find his entire tribe wiped out by disease brought by the white man. It tells of another tribe welcoming him and asking him to help them with the Pilgrims since he spoke English. And finally, of Squanto returning to his home, now occupied by the Pilgrims, helping them build and farm culminating in the celebration of the first Thanksgiving. Play comes complete with background information, discussion questions, writing prompts, literature and Internet links, and engaging cross-curricular activities.
